DEM BASED COMPUTATION OF TOPOGRAPHIC SURFACE ROUGHNESS TO REVEAL INCISION IN GILGIT-BALTISTAN,PAKISTAN

چکیده
This research investigates interrelationship between landscape evolution and neotectonics in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region based on surface roughness (SR). We analyzed topographic features such as flat area, area ratio using Shuttle RadaTopographic Mission-Digital Elevation Model (SRTM DEM) with a spatial resolution of 90 meters. The objective is to make SR map identify areas influenced by neotectonics. DEM distribution slope gradients orientations along aspect were combined portray vertical dissection. Lower values dissection indicate relatively basins which generally mean intermediate gradient orientation. Areas high correspond sharp changes orientations, could be due abrupt scrap edges (possibly neotectonic or lithological control). Higher GB are wide spread oriented SE- NW Ghanche, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit northern Ghizer districts Karakorum, South Pamirs Hindu-Kush ranges. While few higher aligned NE- SW Diamir Raikot Fault. capable identifying deeply incised valleys, tectonic uplifts depressions.

Flow-length difference as a measure of topographic roughness/incision
A new surface roughness/incision measure is introduced based on the difference between the upstream flow length for each cell of a digital elevation model (DEM) along the topographic surface and its projection onto a horizontal plane. The upstream flow lengths along topographic surface can be calculated in ArcGIS software using the Flow Length tool with the inverse of cosine of local slope as w...
متن کاملSoil surface roughness quantification using DEM obtained from UAV photogrammetry
The soil surface roughness is one of the most susceptible to variation in time and space characteristic, and depends on many variables like cultivation practices or soil aggregation. Various indices are used for its quantification, in microscale soil roughness is commonly expressed by HSD calculated from DEM of small sample area. The source of DEM can be close range photogramethry or laser scan...
متن کاملAssessment of Dem Quality for Characterizing Surface Roughness Using Close Range Digital Photogrammetry
This paper presents a procedure for assessing the quality of a digital elevation model (DEM) which has been applied to the output of a normalized cross correlation based stereomatching algorithm. Using semimetric photography of natural gravel river bed surfaces acquired in the field, digital photogrammetry was used to extract DEMs automatically for use in characterizing surface roughness proper...
متن کاملFrom Surface Roughness to Surface Displacements
This paper presents an extension to a measurement system to capture bidirectional refEectance distribution function (BRDF) values and texture maps out of images. The extension will enable the measurement of reflection effects due to surface roughness and additionally extracts a map representing local surface displacements. Different lighting conditions where used to discriminate between surface...
